Broken Bin Policy

This procedure is to be followed whenever a driver reports a broken customer bin.
Broken bins should be reported in the run app notes/image rather than the skype chat.
Transport should acknowledge the report and include it on the “Damaged Bins Reported” trello card: https://trello.com/c/vQ0NPFMC
Add an item to the checklist with the format:
Company name – (Broken bin/Damaged Lid) – Number of bins X Bin Type and Size – person who reported it and the Date – Comments/Actions to Take
I.E.
West Preston Dental - Broken Bin - 1 X GW660 - reported by Robert on 4/6/2019 – for replacement
For the comments/Actions to Take:
With Paper and Cardboard bins, if the crack is not affecting the use of the bin and the customer has not complained, just put “not for immediate replacement”. This will just be for record keeping purposes.
Broken bin should only be acted upon if it is possible that the customer have damaged the bin (unlikely) or the damage is causing issues for the driver to empty it (broken front lip where the bin lifter picks the bin up, broken wheels, broken handle, etc). Otherwise we will be alerting customers to issues that they didn't otherwise care about, and replacing bins at our cost when they are still doing the job. On this instance, put “for replacement”.
Note:
All drivers were informed that they were to report all damaged bins upon the next collections and there would be a period of immunity so all bins got reported without fear of punishment, and that any further damaged bins reported where the damage is clearly due to the bin being emptied incorrectly, there will be two options:
If they report the bin as soon as they arrive and see the damage, it will be deemed to have been caused by the last driver that emptied it.
If they report the bin AFTER they empty it, it will be deemed to be their fault.
The reason for this, is they probably (most likely) damaged the bin while emptying it, so if it is still full, it can't have been the driver that is reporting it that caused it. If it is empty, it most likely was the current driver and they will be reporting that it was already like that to try evade responsibility.
In this case, a driver taking responsibility should only be nominated for -1 point. A driver trying to evade responsibility should be nominated for as many points as required to cover the replacement cost of the bin and delivery/removal.
